The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired center fielder Esteury Ruiz from the Athletics on Wednesday in exchange for right-hander Carlos Duran.
Ruiz, who was designated for assignment by the A’s on Sunday, will report to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Ruiz, 26, appeared in 132 games for Oakland in 2023, recording five home runs, 47 RBIs and an American League-leading 67 stolen bases. It also marked the most steals by a rookie in AL history.
However, he appeared in only 29 games for the A’s in 2024, posting two home runs, eight RBIs and five stolen bases with an underwhelming .200/.270/.382 batting line.
Duran, 23, allowed one run on three hits and struck out eight in 4 1/3 innings in his lone start this season with Oklahoma City.
He is 4-20 with a 4.06 ERA in 82 career appearances (79 starts) across all minor league levels.
To make room for Ruiz on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred right-hander Kyle Hurt (elbow) to the 60-day injured list.
