The Pelicans are strengthening their connection to the Pistons and hiring former Detroit general manager Troy Weaver to the same post in New Orleans, ESPN reported Wednesday.
Last week, the Pelicans introduced Hall of Famer and Pistons legend Joe Dumars as their executive vice president of basketball operations.
Weaver, 57, served as GM for the Pistons from 2020-24. He spent the 2024-25 season as a senior advisor with the Washington Wizards.
Under Weaver’s direction in Detroit, the Pistons amassed a league-best $61 million in salary cap space and a roster stocked with young talent. The Pistons were 72-244 during that span but his efforts ultimately bore fruit this season as Detroit ended a six-year playoff drought, led by some notable draft picks from his tenure.
Weaver previously worked as the player personnel director for the Utah Jazz from 2007-08 and worked in the front office of the Oklahoma City Thunder from 2008-20, finishing his time there as VP of basketball operations.
The Pelicans parted with general manager David Griffin on April 14 following a 21-61 campaign.
