DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The demolition of a parking ramp that was built in the 1950’s at 2nd Avenue West and 1st Street and condemned as substandard by the city in 2019 is now underway.
Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert along with other city and downtown officials held a news conference on Wednesday to begin the long process of taking down the former Shoppers Auto Park while saving the adjoining New Garrick building.
The Mayor says the deconstruction will reflect the city’s continued focus and investment in the next chapter of the downtown area.
The contractor, Carleton Companies, will be working floor by floor to sever the parking structure from the New Garrick building and remove the rubble as they progress.
