WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. House of Representatives Democratic leaders on Tuesday are set to unveil a move to try to shield Medicaid and a food assistance program from cuts to offset the costs of President Donald Trump’s tax cuts, according to three people familiar with the plan.
Democrats will begin a discharge petition for the bill that could force a vote on the House floor if a majority of lawmakers sign on to the petition. This will be a difficult process in the lower chamber currently held by Republicans 220-213.
