DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Minnesota Senate Committee on Taxes released its omnibus tax bill on Wednesday.
The proposal includes cuts to local government aid (LGA) which includes a reduction of 3.1 percent to Duluth. Mayor Roger Reinert says those cuts would take 1.1 million dollars out of the city’s general fund budgets.
The Mayor says that the LGA comprises nearly a third of the city’s total income and any reduction would lead to cuts in the delivery of city services.
Since LGA has proven to be an unpredictable source of funds in recent years, Mayor Reinert says it’s important to grow the city’s own tax base to be more financially self sustaining.
The mayor will be visiting the State Capitol on Thursday to address the proposed LGA cuts.
