GREENWOOD TOWNSHIP, MN (KDAL) – The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department responded to a reported structure fire in Greenwood Township Thursday afternoon.
When fire crews arrived to the 4500 block of Serenity Point Road, it was determined that a small campfire had spread to fully involve a cabin and then expanded into the nearby woods.
Multiple fire departments were called and the fire was contained so that no other property was lost. There were no injuries reported.
Citizens are reminded that fire danger is high and caution is needed during the hot and dry weather expected for the next several days.
The DNR says campfires or burning small piles of yard waste can quickly turn into a dangerous wildfire in dry and windy conditions.
The National Weather Service Office in Duluth has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Sunday over much of the area and additional watches or warnings are possible.
