ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – According to the Minnesota DNR, fishing should be good across the state as the season opens on Saturday.
Before you head out to your favorite lake, make sure you have an updated fishing license available at many outdoor supply or bait shops, DNR offices and online at mndnr.gov/buyalicense.
The DNR is also reminding those fishing or boating to use the “clean, drain and dispose” procedures to protect waters from invasive species.
Safety is also important as many lakes still have very cold water and any unexpected falls could turn tragic. Always wear a life jacket and keep it buckled or zipped up.
Last year, 1.1 million fishing licenses were sold in Minnesota and around 500 thousand anglers are expected to be out on opening day.
The opening weekend also features a virtual fishing challenge for moms during the Mothers Day weekend when Minnesota moms can fish without a license on Saturday and Sunday. Submit photos of fish they catch at the Minnesota Moms Fishing Challenge group on Facebook.
