DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The three big wildfires in northeast Minnesota continue to grow and none have been contained as of Wednesday morning.
The Camp House fire has now spread to over 12 thousand acres and approximately 140 structures have been destroyed. Evacuation zones are still in effect.
The Jenkins Creek fire covers over 6,800 acres and has been actively growing. The Cadotte Lake Campground has been evacuated and closed, numerous roads have been closed and a shelter has been opened at the Fredenberg Community Center by St. Louis County Public Health and the Red Cross.
The Munger Shaw fire is at about 1,600 acres and is slowly spreading north. There are several road closures and some evacuations are now being reviewed to determine if they need to stay in place.
The National Weather Service says high temperatures and low dewpoints will continue on Wednesday and create an environment favorable for the growth of the current fires and any others that might form.
Southerly winds will gradually become southeast spreading smoke from the fires across northern St. Louis and into Lake County. An Air Quality Alert is in place for those areas today.
Better firefighting weather is due on Thursday with showers and thunderstorms possible and cooler temperatures. More rain is also expected on Friday.
