The Seattle Mariners placed right-hander Bryce Miller on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to right elbow inflammation.
The move is retroactive to Monday.
Also on Wednesday, the Mariners recalled left-hander Jhonathan Diaz from Triple-A Tacoma.
Miller, 26, is 2-4 with a 5.22 ERA and 21 walks and 35 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings over eight starts this season.
He surrendered a campaign-worst seven runs on eight hits in five innings of a 9-1 setback to the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. He said after the game that he still is dealing with lingering arm soreness and back tightness.
“Today, I felt good going into the game, obviously, and just kind of third or fourth inning, I kind of had some stuff that didn’t feel good and didn’t feel normal, like I have in the past,” Miller said on Sunday.
Miller owns a 22-19 record with a 3.71 ERA in 64 career starts with the Mariners.
Diaz, 28, allowed one hit in 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the Mariners earlier this season.
He is 2-2 with a 4.66 ERA in 17 career appearances (seven starts) with the Los Angeles Angels and Mariners.
