DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – On Wednesday, the Jenkins Creek Fire continued to expand and is now the largest of the three wildfires burning in northeast Minnesota.
The size of the fire is now listed at 15,571 acres and there continues to be some concern that winds could blow it toward the town of Hoyt Lakes. On Wednesday the Jenkins Creek fire progressed slightly to the north and west.
Meanwhile, the Camp House fire grew slightly to 14,979 acres and the number of structures destroyed remained at about 140.
Shelters for evacuees have been established at the Fredenberg Community Center and also at Old School Lives on Highway 53 in Cotton.
Due to their proximity, the two fires are now being managed under the Brimson Complex name.
There was only minimal growth of the Munger Shaw fire on Wednesday and coverage is at about 1,700 acres.
St. Louis County has an evacuation map available online for all three fires at https://sheriff-slcgis.hub.arcgis.com/pages/wildfire
A reminder that the public is asked to avoid the areas around the fires for their safety and the safety of fire personnel. Temporary flight restrictions are in place and no drones are allowed near any of the fire areas.
The weather may be providing some help fighting the fires on Thursday and Friday with showers and thunderstorms along with possible heavy rain in the forecast.
