SUPERIOR, WI (Northern News Now) – Two men, believed to be Venezuelan gang members, have been charged after allegedly stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from Twin Ports ATMs.
The suspects are being held at the Douglas County jail after being arrested in Superior earlier this month.
According to court records, they’re accused of “jackpotting” ATMs, which means installing a device on the machine that causes it to dispense all its money.
The FBI has been investigating multiple cases of this happening in Duluth recently, with more than $200,000 stolen
One of the suspects is from Chicago while the other’s address is unknown.
According to authorities, these two suspects targeted Superior Choice credit unions.
The Superior Police Department had responded to an ATM alarm on May 11 and found two masked males who had been reported for attempting the same crime in Duluth earlier that evening.
The Duluth Police Department informed the Superior Police Department that there had been seven ATMs broken into in Duluth the past week.
Both men are being charged with class H felonies and, if convicted, face fines and up to 3 years in prison.
The suspects were identified as 25 year old Jhocer Alexander Colina-Moncerrat and 24 year old Genfraiyer Jossue Rodriguez-Mendoza.
According to court records, the suspects are in the process of being deported.
