The San Diego Padres placed right-hander Michael King on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation on Sunday and recalled right-hander David Morgan from Triple-A El Paso.
King, 30, is 4-2 with a 2.59 ERA in 10 starts this season. He was scratched from his start Saturday against the Atlanta Braves, with Padres manager Mike Shildt saying the injury is not believed to be serious. The IL move is retroactive to Thursday.
In seven seasons with the New York Yankees (2019-23) and Padres, King is 30-28 with a 3.13 ERA in 156 appearances (59 starts). He finished seventh in National League Cy Young Award voting last season when he went 13-9 with a 2.95 ERA in 31 appearances (30 starts) for San Diego.
Morgan, 25, is set to make his major league debut. He has gone a combined 0-2 with a 6.91 ERA in 14 relief appearances at Triple-A El Paso and Double-A San Antonio this season.
Also on Sunday, San Diego recalled left-hander Omar Cruz from Triple-A El Paso and optioned right-hander Alek Jacob.
Cruz, 26, made his major league debut April 1 and had a 4.91 ERA in two relief appearances. Jacob, 26, was 1-0 with a 5.82 ERA in 21 relief outings for the Padres this season.
