SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – A buckthorn removal project got underway this week in the Billings Park area of Superior.
In its commitment to use sustainable practices and green initiatives, the city is using goats to munch on the invasive weed.
The herd of 39 goats are provided by Drifty Acres & Regenerative Ruminants and are grazing in a fenced off area of the park.
The public is invited to watch from a distance but should not enter the fenced area or interact with the goats who are working animals and not pets.
Buckthorn is an invasive plant that spreads rapidly and disrupts the local ecosystem and, as a chemically free solution, goats love to eat buckthorn.
