(Reuters) -Violeta Barrios de Chamorro, who in 1990 became the first female president of Nicaragua and the Americas, died early Saturday morning in Costa Rica at the age of 95, her family announced in a statement.
Chamorro, who suffered a stroke in 2018, had left public life due to a tumor and subsequent illnesses. In October 2023, under constant medical care, she moved to Costa Rica, where her three exiled children reside.
