DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office has received several calls from residents reporting an email scam in the county.
The scammers are sending invoices by email that claim to be from the Planning and Zoning Office and demanding that money be wired to various locations.
The Sheriff’s Office says the email and invoices are fraudulent and reminds citizens that the county never asks for money to be wired or sent via gift cards.
The scammers frequently use threats and coercion to gain compliance and these types of scams are becoming more common.
Never provide personal or financial information to anyone sending unsolicited emails, text messages, computer notifications or phone calls
