DULUTH, MN (KDAL) — The Great Lakes Aquarium is celebrating 25 years of education and community with a week of events, culminating in an open house on Friday evening.
Since opening in July 2000, the Great Lakes Aquarium has had almost four million visitors walk through its exhibits, and more than twenty thousand students participate in its educational programs every year. The aquarium’s most recent exhibit, Lava to Lakes, opened in May.
Tuesday morning at 11:00am, a time capsule buried shortly after the July 2000 opening will be unveiled. Items contained within the capsule will be viewable afterwards.
The GLA Gives Back event starts Wednesday at noon, where the aquarium will highlight other area nonprofits promoting conservation and sustainability. Thursday night in the beer garden will feature the food truck Bowlz N’ Thangz with music performed by Ashe Berton.
Friday evening’s open house begins at 6:00pm, and features a performance by musician Matthew Aitch, a SCUBA program at 6:30pm, with a raffle drawing at 7:30pm. Touch pools and animal encounters will remain throughout the evening. Food will be available to purchase from Log Home Wood Fired Pizza.
Parking and admission are free for Friday’s open house.
A full schedule of the anniversary celebration and raffle information are available at the Great Lakes Aquarium website: https://glaquarium.org/
