The UMD athletic department has announced a class of nine inductees for the UMD Athletic Hall of Fame.
–> Jheri Booker, basketball (2008-10). 2010 WBCA All-American, one of just five players in program history to earn that honor since 1988. Two time First Team All-NSIC, led the league in scoring and steals as a senior in 2009-10 while scoring in double figures in all 31 games as UMD reached the NCAA Tournament.
–> Bob Corran, AD (1997-2003). Led athletic department through a transitional period, developing a strategic plan and reorganization while overseeing the addition of women’s hockey and a major increase in funding and scholarships. Hired the three coaches responsible for all ten UMD team national championships: Shannon Miller (women’s hockey), Bob Nielson (football), and Scott Sandelin (men’s hockey).
–> Kristi Plante, basketball and softball (1991-95). NSIC All-Conference in both sports, captained the basketball team to an NSIC title and UMD’s first-ever berth in the NCAA Division II North Central playoffs (1995). NCAA Division II All-Midwest Region team in softball (1994), led the NSIC in RBI, then helped UMD to the 1995 NSIC title.
–> Chad Erickson, men’s hockey (1988-91). Started all 39 games as a sophomore in 1989-90, posting a 3.68 goals against and .895 save percentage on his way to All-American and All-WCHA First Team honors. Started 79 of 80 games over his last two seasons, including 64 in a row. Played in two NHL games for the Devils during a 10-year professional career.
–> Becky Hoffman, volleyball (1999-2002). UMD’s first AVCA All-American First Team honoree (2002), also the first four-time All-NSIC honoree. First player in NSIC history to be named league MVP twice (2001 and 2002). Captained UMD to the 2002 NSIC title as UMD earned its first-ever No. 1 ranking in the AVCA Division II poll.
–> Jason Malec, baseball (1982-84). Two-time All-NSIC player. Led all NCAA Division II pitchers in strikeouts per nine innings in 1984 (12.1). 124 strikeouts over 109 innings in three years at UMD. Proctor native pitched three years in the Twins organization after leaving UMD.
–> Isaac Odim, football (2008-10). Two-time NCAA champion (2008 and 2010), finished fourth in the voting for the 2009 Harlon Hill Trophy (best player in Division II), the highest a UMD player has ever finished in that vote. UMD’s single-season leader in rushing yards (1808), touchdowns (29), and all-purpose yards (2,496), also the Bulldogs’ all-time career leader in those categories. Earned numerous academic honors at UMD. Signed with the Chargers as a free agent in 2011.
–> Liz Kolquist, cross country/track (2006-09). Three-time NCAA Division II Indoor All-American, two-time Outdoor All-American. Seven-time NCAA Division II championship qualifier, she twice finished as national runner-up in the 800 meters. One of the first two UMD women to earn All-American honors at more than one event in one NCAA championship (2009).
–> Hanne Sikio, women’s hockey (1999-2003). Part of UMD’s three straight national titles (2001-2003). Scored five goals in six NCAA Frozen Four games, named to the 2003 Frozen Four All-Tournament Team. 220 points ranks fourth in program history (123 games). Two-time All-WCHA pick, played in three IIHF Women’s World Championships, helping Finland win bronze in both 1999 and 2003.
The Class of 2025 will be inducted Friday, Sept. 26, during a ceremony at Weber Music Hall on the UMD campus. The UMD Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1991 and now consists of 151 members, representing 21 different sports.
