DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A group of middle school students from Ohara, Japan arrived in Duluth Thursday as part of the Sister Cities’ cultural exchange program.
The visit is the second half of the exchange that saw Duluth students traveling to Japan last summer.
A Welcome Picnic was held at the Japanese Peace Bell Garden at Enger Tower featuring Mayor Roger Reinert.
While in Duluth the students will experience a Duluth Huskies baseball game, a ride on the North Shore Scenic Railroad and visits to Split Rock Lighthouse and Gooseberry Falls among other local stops and activities.
A farewell picnic is scheduled for Tuesday on Park Point.
Christy Rounds, the Executive Director of Duluth Sister Cities International, says the exchange builds friendships that transcend borders and lets young people see the world through each other’s eyes.
