DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The St. Louis County Board’s Committee of the Whole has approved a maximum property tax levy for 2026 that is 12.4 percent higher than this year.
Salaries and increasing health insurance costs are among the largest contributing factors in the increase. The levy also reflects investments in County infrastructure including the Depot in Duluth.
Partially offsetting the impact of the levy increase is a 7 percent growth in the property tax base in the county.
A final vote on the maximum levy will be held at the County Board meeting next week.
As the budget for next year is worked on over the next several months, the levy amount could be reduced but cannot be increased. A final budget for 2026 will be up for a vote on December 16th.
