DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The Suites in Canal Park building was evacuated around 9:30 a-m on Wednesday for the possible presence of chlorine gas.
The 300 block of South Lake Avenue was closed to traffic when first responders arrived.
The Duluth Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Response Team found low levels of chlorine gas following a chemical spill in the pool utility room of the building. The team mitigated the spill and ventilated the building to remove the gas.
Staff and residents were allowed back in the building and Lake Avenue was re-opened around 1 p-m.
The Fire Department says there is no ongoing public safety issue stemming from the incident.
