UNDATED (KDAL) – A ceremony to remember the victims of the 9-11 terrorist attacks is being held on Thursday night at the Proctor VFW.
The event will begin at 6 p-m and speakers will include retired Air Force Colonel Penny Dieryck who served with the 148th Fighter Wing for 35 years. Presiding officer at the ceremony is Dwight Nelson a past VFW Post 137 commander and designer of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the Lakewalk in Duluth.
The event is open to the public and will be held at 501 3rd Avenue in Proctor.
Thursday morning at 8:46, Duluth firefighters will be hosting the annual 9-11 memorial stair climb at the AMSOIL Arena.
Participants from several area fire departments, with full turn-out gear and air packs, will be climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories at the World Trade Center.
The event is to remember the 343 New York firefighters and other service providers that lost their lives while trying to save others 24 years ago.
