DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Prescribed fire operations are underway this week in the Gunflint and Tofte Ranger Districts of the eastern Superior National Forest.
The prescribed burns help to reduce overgrown vegetation to protect from devastating wildfires.
The work is expected to last through December as weather conditions allow.
Burning on the western side of the National Forest will begin when conditions improve.
Weather conditions will be evaluated in the hours before scheduled burns are to begin. If conditions are not right, the prescribed fire activities may be canceled.
If the burn piles are located near roads, signs will be placed to alert motorists to slow down for possible smoke and to watch for firefighters.
