NEW YORK -Chauncey Billups, an NBA Hall of Fame player and the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, and Terry Rozier, a guard with the Miami Heat, have been arrested in connection with federal investigations into illegal gambling, according to media reports on Thursday.
The charges they faced were not immediately known, but FBI Director Kash Patel and the U.S. Attorney’s office in Brooklyn were scheduled to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. ET (1400 GMT).
Representatives of the Miami Heat and the NBA did not immediately answer requests for comment.
In January, the Wall Street Journal reported that federal prosecutors were investigating whether Rozier had altered his performance as part of an illegal sports-betting scheme. Rozier, 31, is in his 11th NBA season and has averaged 13.9 points a game in his career.
Billups was charged in connection with an illegal poker operation tied to organized crime, ABC News reported.
Damon Jones, a former player and assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers, was also arrested on Thursday, according to ABC News.
