MADISON, WI (KDAL) – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has awarded several brownfield assessment grants around the state including one for Douglas County.
The awards provide contractor services to assess environmental conditions at sites where expansion, redevelopment or reuse is complicated by real or potential contamination.
The Douglas County brownfield site is on east County Road B in Foxboro. The property was formerly used as a gas station and was acquired by the county through tax delinquency.
Two underground tanks were removed in 2023 but petroleum contamination is suspected.
The award will help Douglas County conduct the environmental assessments needed to plan the cleanup of the property and encourage its reuse.
