SILVER BAY, MN (KDAL) – On Monday, the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, the Split Rock Lighthouse will light the beacon and ring a bell for each of the 29 men who lost their lives during a storm on Lake Superior in 1975.
Tickets to the in-person ceremony at the Lighthouse are sold out, but the event will be streamed online at MNHS.org.
The annual tribute to the crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald and all those lost in shipwrecks on Lake Superior began at Split Rock 40 years ago.
Those with tickets to the memorial beacon lighting are asked to use off site parking in Silver Bay since parking at the lighthouse is limited and to arrive between 1 and 2 p-m.
The last free shuttle leaves at 3:15 and the ceremony begins at 4 p-m.
