ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – According to preliminary figures from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), hunters harvested 186,203 deer during the 2025 hunting season.
That was a 9 percent increase from a year ago and 5 percent higher than the five year average.
One of the areas of the state with the largest deer harvest increase was the northeast with a 14 percent increase from 2024. Deer populations in that area were significantly affected by severe winter conditions in 2022 and 2023 but are slowly improving following back to back mild winters in 2024 and 2025.
An online survey to get feedback about deer and deer hunting is now available. The survey features open ended questions about experiences regarding deer populations in the area where they live and hunt.
The survey is open through February 23rd and can be found on the DNR deer hunting webpage mndnr.gov/hunting/deer.
