DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Two Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) projects will be affecting traffic on Highway 61 starting on Monday.
The lighting systems in the Lafayette and Silver Cliff tunnels will be replaced and single lane traffic controlled by signal lights will be in place Mondays through Thursdays until about mid November.
Work will be in one tunnel at a time beginning with the Lafayette Tunnel and then moving to the Silver Cliff Tunnel.
MnDOT will also start work on the Highway 61 Expressway just south of the McQuade Road.
That project will construct a temporary wall at the outlet of the Talmadge River to help support the embankment. The northbound right lane in that area will be closed through the middle of June.
