DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A new study from the University of Minnesota Extension shows the total economic impact of Grandma’s Marathon to the region is nearly 40 million dollars.
That figure is nearly double what is was in the last study that was done about five years ago.
Among the findings of a survey of participants, about 90 percent of the runners are visitors to Duluth, each participant travels with 2.7 other people and they spend $176.70 per day on dining, lodging and transportation.
Since the last study in 2019, consumer spending was up 60 percent on race weekend.
This year’s marathon is set for June 21st.
