DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – There will be a record number of runners and spectators at this year’s Grandma’s Marathon and associated races in Duluth.
Organizers are urging the tens of thousand visitors to arrive on Thursday if possible and avoid what is expected to be heavy traffic and delays on Friday.
Adding to the traffic issues is the ongoing work on I-35 in Duluth and in the Hinckley area where single lanes and some ramp closures will likely cause considerable backups especially on Friday afternoon.
Participants are strongly encouraged to pick up their race packets at the DECC on Thursday or no later than 11 a-m on Friday to avoid a late arrival at the starting line.
Those arriving in Duluth from the south have two options to arrive at the DECC. From I-35 take exit 256A toward Mesaba Avenue and stay right to take Superior Street or Michigan Street and then turn right onto 5th Avenue West.
The other option is taking the I-35 bypass and the temporary Exit 256B to Lake Avenue and turn right to Railroad Street.
A reminder that on Saturday race day crowds will make travel in and around Canal Park, downtown and Park Point very difficult and extra time will be needed to navigate the area.
