UNDATED (KDAL) – Since Labor Day is one of the busiest weekends for outdoor recreation in Minnesota and Wisconsin, the Department of Natural Resources in both states are urging drivers of ATV’s and UTV’s to prioritize safety on their rides.
Already this year, 16 people have been killed in recreational vehicle crashes in Minnesota and 30 lost their lives in 2024, a historic high.
In Wisconsin there have been 28 deaths so far this year.
To help ensure a safe ride, DNR tips include always wearing a helmet, wearing a seatbelt if so equipped, drive sober, stay on designated trails, ride together with others, ride to conditions at a safe speed and complete safety training.
Check the Minnesota and Wisconsin DNR websites for off highway vehicle regulations and more safety tips.
