SAGINAW, MN (KDAL) – St. Louis County Sheriff deputies continue searching for an inmate who escaped from custody at the Northeast Regional Corrections Center (NERCC) in Saginaw on Tuesday night.
When he escaped, 40 year old Michael Todd Hart was wearing a yellow sweatshirt, grey t-shirt and blue pants. He was heading north on foot toward the Independence area.
He was last seen Wednesday in the area of Beaver Lake Road near County Highway 8. Deputies and other law enforcement personnel continue to search the area with drones and dogs.
Anyone who has seen Hart or has more information should contact authorities at 9-1-1.
UPDATE: As of Thursday morning, the operation is moving from an active search to an ongoing investigation.
It is believed that Hart will try to make his way back to the Iron Range, where he has many friends, family and other associates.
Investigation to locate Hart and take him into custody is ongoing and will be coordinated with other agencies.
During the investigation, two accomplices were identified and detained. One of the accomplices, Devone Shackelton has since been charged with aiding an offender and was lodged at the jail.
