(Reuters) -Diligent Robotics is in talks with senior living operators to deploy its robots beyond hospitals as it expands outside healthcare, chief executive Andrea Thomaz told Reuters on Tuesday.
The U.S. senior living market, valued at $907.59 billion in 2024, is experiencing an ongoing labor shortage, underscoring a substantial demand for technology solutions to support providers.
Diligent was selected for the eight-week AARP AgeTech Collaborative accelerator, which connects early-stage companies with mentors and provides go-to-market support.
The company said it will use the cohort to test where assistive robots can best help older adults and the staff who care for them.
“We’re looking for three to five senior living facilities to be our early partners. We’ll likely start with a robot that’s very similar to Moxi and then look at what we need to change throughout the year,” Thomaz said.
Diligent is known for Moxi, a mobile robot that ferries medications, lab samples and supplies so clinicians can focus on patient care.
The company says Moxi has completed more than 1.25 million deliveries across 25-plus U.S. hospitals, including Northwestern Medicine, Providence Saint John’s Health Center and Rochester General Hospital.
As it broadens its market presence, Diligent says its robots may begin engaging directly with residents in senior care facilities, a step up from incidental interactions with patients and visitors in hospitals.
