BEIJING (Reuters) -China maintains that jailed Swedish publisher Gui Minhai is a Chinese national and it firmly opposes any country or organization interfering with its judicial sovereignty in any form, a spokesperson from its foreign ministry said on Thursday.
Gui, a Hong Kong-based publisher of books critical of China’s communist leaders, was abducted in Thailand in 2015 and in 2020 handed a 10-year prison term by Beijing for illegally providing intelligence overseas.
Sweden’s foreign minister is visiting China from Thursday to Friday.
