SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – As the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald approaches, the University of Wisconsin-Superior will host renowned shipwreck historian and author Ric Mixter in a free, special program on Saturday afternoon.
The commemorative event will be held at 4 p-m on the 2nd floor of the Jim Dan Hill Library.
Mixter is one of the few people who personally visited the Fitzgerald wreck site at the bottom of Lake Superior in a submersible. His presentation will include archival footage, interviews with former crew members and insights about the various investigations into the theories of why the ship went down in the 1975 storm.
Following the presentation, a question and answer session will be held and then a musical performance honoring the legacy of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
The event is presented in partnership with UW-Superior and the Douglas County Historical Society, as part of the Wisconsin Historical Society’s History Makers Tour, presented by Culver’s.
