ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) – Some changes are possible in Minnesota for walleye anglers.
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is proposing a reduction in the walleye limit from the current six to four in statewide inland waters.
The rule change, if approved, would go into effect in March of 2027.
The regulation of keeping only one walleye over 20 inches would remain in place.
According to Fisheries Section Manager Brad Parsons, the step would help ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy excellent walleye fishing in the state.
The current limit has been in place since 1956 and over the years many factors have changed including the introduction of invasive species and the new fish finding technologies.
More information on the proposal and previous public input can be found online at DNR website mndnr.gov/fisheries.
