DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – At the request of the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is conducting an independent investigation into the death of a jail inmate.
35 year old Darrin John Tiessen was jailed on January 25th on an active arrest warrant.
Just after 1 a-m on January 27th, a correctional officer conducting a welfare check found Tiessen unresponsive in his cell.
Jail staff, using CPR and an AED, were able to obtain a heartbeat and the inmate was then taken to a hospital for further care. He did not regain consciousness and died on January 30th.
