HERMANTOWN, MN (KDAL) – Google has confirmed they are looking at plans for a data center in Hermantown.
The company has reached an Electric Service Agreement with Minnesota Power to provide power for the new project.
In a statement, Google said they look forward to collaborating with the City of Hermantown, St. Louis County , Minnesota Power and other local partners in refining the vision of the new data center.
The agreement with Minnesota Power includes a 5 million dollar contribution from Google to bolster energy affordability and efficiency programs for low to moderate income residential customers.
Google also says the data center would use advanced air-cooled technology which would eliminate large water usage amounts except for normal kitchen and bathrooms.
They expect to provide more details on the Hermantown project in the coming months.
