DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A fire in a third floor apartment in the 300 block of West 1st Street was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system which prevent the spread to the rest of the structure.
The fire was reported around 8 a-m on Wednesday and Duluth Fire Department crews from several stations responded.
The building was evacuated but tenants were allowed to return to their apartments once the fire was determined to be out. There were no injuries but the tenant from the apartment where the fire was located was displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Fire damage was estimated at 5 thousand dollars but the building had about 100 thousand dollars in water damage due to the sprinkler system deployment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal’s Office but it is not thought to be suspicious at this time.
