WASHINGTON, July 30 (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate health committee voted on Thursday to advance the nomination of President Donald Trump’s pick for CDC Director Dr. Erica Schwartz, bringing her closer to confirmation by the whole Senate.
If confirmed, Schwartz will lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an agency reeling from months of leadership turmoil.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee also voted to advance the nomination of Sean Kaufman, Trump’s pick for Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response.
