STOCKHOLM, Aug 13 (Reuters) – Swedish union IF Metall said on Thursday it will suspend its nearly 3-year long industrial action against Tesla as of August 19.
“The reason is that Tesla has bought out all of the union’s striking members at the company. This means that the conflict no longer has any effect,” it said in a statement.
The conflict has been ongoing since October 2023 when a group of Tesla mechanics went on strike, making it a flashpoint for tensions between Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s anti-union stance and Sweden’s collective bargaining model.
The strike is Sweden’s longest.
Tesla does not have manufacturing plants in Sweden, but its electric cars are serviced by IF Metall union workers.
